About UNM Health and the CenterUNM Children's Psychiatric Center provides intensive behavioral health care for children and adolescents through age 17. Services may include inpatient, residential, or partial hospitalization programs. The center includes a 35-bed cottage-style hospital and an adolescent inpatient unit. We are affiliated with an academic medical center and serve children with serious emotional disturbances—caring for families regardless of ability to pay.

Position SummaryDirect and coordinate the clinical and management activities of one or more units to provide quality patient care. Support long-range strategic objectives and education/research in conjunction with the Unit Medical Director. Ensure adherence to hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignments may include neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations.
Detailed Responsibilities- SUPERVISION – Plan, coordinate and direct activities of supervisory, technical, professional and support staff; conduct staff meetings
- MANAGE – Interview applicants, hire, train, supervise, evaluate, counsel, discipline and terminate departmental personnel
- STANDARDS – Establish standards and objectives for the clinical unit; ensure implementation and compliance with policies and procedures
- PATIENT CARE – Plan safe, economical and efficient nursing and/or patient care
- PATIENT CARE – Ensure care is delivered in accordance with quality standards and that documentation is maintained
- PATIENT CARE – Monitor clinical records to assist in resolving patient problems; provide continuity of care and discharge planning; ensure orders are transcribed and carried out
- EDUCATION – Provide and coordinate clinical learning experiences for staff and students
- EDUCATION – Plan and assist in patient teaching; coordinate orientation and clinical learning for staff and students
- LIAISON – Act as liaison between patient, family, physician, clinician and staff
- SUPPLIES & RECORDS – Ensure maintenance of equipment, supplies, records, and reports
- RECORDS – Maintain departmental reports and records; collect data for administrative and regulatory purposes
- COMMITTEES AND MEETINGS – Attend meetings; participate in committee functions; engage in hospital-wide activities as directed
- DEVELOPMENT – Encourage professional growth through participation in educational programs and related activities
- EDUCATION – Support education and research in conjunction with the Unit Medical Director
- BUDGET – Develop and administer the division’s annual budget; monitor and approve expenditures
- PATIENT SAFETY – Follow patient safety policies and proactively identify opportunities to improve safety
- PATIENT SAFETY – Identify and address environmental conditions that may pose risk to patients
- PATIENT SAFETY – Report safety concerns, medical errors and near misses in a timely manner
- PATIENT SAFETY – Encourage patient engagement in care and questions about treatment

Physical Conditions
Light Work – Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and up to 10 pounds frequently; may require walking or standing for long periods; may require pushing/pulling of materials.
Working conditions
