- Customer Service and Caring Practices:
Achieve exceptional patient experience using CARES, AIDET and EPE tools. Address and resolve complaints in the moment; manage conflict and request supervisor help when needed. Educate patients regarding insurance benefits and liabilities. Ensure accounts are financially cleared prior to date of service. - Encounter Components:
Perform patient registration and collect/enter demographic and financial information for final clearance of scheduled accounts. Review Urgent/Emergent admission accounts for notification, financial clearance and pre-discharge authorization. Obtain missing insurance information and verify eligibility and benefits. Review work queues for pre-visit or urgent/emergent admissions; ensure accurate policy identifiers, subscriber information and authorizations; document actions in the system; maintain knowledge of authorization requirements and payer guidelines, including Medicare CMS guidelines and MSPQ requirements. - Financial Accountability:
Collect identified patient financial obligations, ensure a payer source is identified prior to services, and obtain authorization for the correct procedure, facility and date of service. - Patient Relations:
Contact patients pre-visit to complete missing information; communicate transparently about liabilities and authorization issues; educate patients on benefits and financial options; provide way-finding and use AIDET to alleviate anxiety. - Quality Improvement and Compliance:
Perform duties in compliance with company policies and legal requirements; participate in risk management activities; support CA R ES behaviors and other assigned duties.
- High school diploma; continued education preferred
- Pass Patient Academy with a passing score of 85%+ (External/Internal Non-Patient Access candidates)
- Previous completion of Patient Access Advocate II and III advancement tests
- Minimum of 2 years in healthcare in Patient Access and/or billing with strong customer service
- Strong knowledge of insurance and financial processing; proficient in EPIC ADT; EPIC proficiency test with 85%+
- Specialty
Certifications:
CHAA, CHAM or other industry equivalent preferred - Microsoft Office knowledge; strong keyboarding and data entry skills
- Demonstrated ability to work with payers to obtain authorizations and coordinate benefits
