Position Summary

Under direction of Pulmonary Services Director, act as a clinical resource for primary direction and participate in respiratory care provision by performing patient assessments, therapeutic, diagnostic and advanced critical care procedures. Supervise licensed staff. Determine shift assignments and operations based on acuity of respiratory care, staff expertise and credentialing. Ensure adherence to Hospital and Departmental Policies, Procedures and Guidelines. Patient care assignment may include;
Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric age groups.

Detailed responsibilities
  • ASSIGNMENT - Assign and monitor shift responsibilities and provision of Pulmonary Services to ensure compliance with departmental, personnel, and hospital policies, procedures, guidelines, and protocols
  • STAFFING - Monitor and adjust staffing and assignments, shift operations, workload and acuity points for planning purposes and assume direct patient care duties
  • PREPARE - Prepare and maintain statistical records of staffing assignments, acuity levels and data collection for future operations planning, benchmarking and budget purposes
  • PROVIDE - Provide respiratory diagnostic, therapeutic and advanced critical care procedures as needed
  • ASSIST - Monitor quality assurance programs for Pulmonary Services and Arterial Blood Gas labs
  • OPERATE - Responsible for continuous operation of the Neonatal and Pediatric critical care arterial blood gas analyzer. Conduct training, annual competency, troubleshooting, maintenance
  • PROVIDE - Provide and act as a clinical resource for procedures requiring advanced knowledge of anatomy, physiology, objectives and initiation criteria
  • ADMINISTER - Report and maintain documentation on use of special gases for patient billing and Hospital credits
  • INVENTORY - Maintain inventory and obtain medications and supplies from distribution sources
  • SUPERVISION - Perform all supervisory functions including annual evaluations, progress reports, disciplinary counseling, review of timecards of employees and all hiring functions of new staff, including interviewing, selecting, training, and orienting
  • SUPERVISION - Assists with staff development, RTCAP program, core/specialty groups, in‑services, competencies, goals, objectives and continuing education
  • SUPERVISION - Performs evaluations; assists with counseling and disciplinary actions
  • STANDARDS - Set specific standards and objectives for unit; ensure implementation of activities and documentation to comply with standards and regulations
  • DEVELOPMENT - Attend and participate in professional meetings and committees; stay abreast of new trends and innovations
  • PATIENT SAFETY 1 - Follow patient safety‑related policies, procedures and protocols
  • PATIENT SAFETY 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
  • PATIENT SAFETY 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
  • PATIENT SAFETY 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
  • PATIENT SAFETY 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may 'not seem right'
Qualifications

Education:

Associate Degree (essential).
Bachelor's Degree (non-essential).

Education specialization:

Related Discipline (essential). Related Discipline (non-essential).

Experience:

2 years directly related experience (essential).
Bilingual English/Keres, Tewa, Tiwa, Towa, Zuni, or Navajo (non-essential).

Credentials:
Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification within 1 year (essential).
CPR for Healthcare/BLS Provider or Professional Rescuers within 30 days (essential).
Respiratory Care Practitioner in NM (essential).
Registered Respiratory Therapist (essential). Non-essential: PALS and NALS.

Physical Conditions:

Heavy Work:
Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects or people. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work.

Chemicals, Bio Hazardous Materials require PPE. Subject to an annual contract and performance appraisal. Tuberculosis testing is completed upon hire and additionally as required.
