Position SummaryAssist in the nursing care and preparation of G.I. Lab/Endoscopy Center patients. Function as a member of the procedure team in issuing supplies and instruments to Endoscopists. Ensure adherence to Hospitals and departmental policies and procedures. Patient care assignment may include;
Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult and Geriatric age groups.
- Equip & Supplies - Work with staff team to gather necessary supplies, equipment and instruments
- Preparation - Assist in preparing patient and procedure area; prepare and maintain endoscopy video cart, light source, supplies, endoscope, instillation pump and lab containers
- Specimens - Assist in maintenance and care of specimens; prepare specimens for laboratory analysis
- Admissions - Assist with patient admission to Admitting and Recovery
- Patient Transport - Transport patients to and from requesting areas; ensure adherence to all safety measures
- Equipment & Supplies - Decontaminate all equipment, instruments, and supplies
- Documentation - Document all patient care activity, provider and instrument utilization in electronic medical record or hard copy as appropriate; complete all billing sheets
- Stock - Perform restocking duties as necessary
- Special Procedures - Function as a service coordinator with RN for special procedure preparations
- Development - Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, reading current literature, attending in-services, meetings and workshops
- Patient Safety 1 - Follow patient safety-related policies, procedures and protocols
- Patient Safety 2 - Demonstrate proactive approach to patient safety by seeking opportunities to improve patient safety through questioning of current policies and processes
- Patient Safety 3 - Identify and report/correct environmental conditions and/or situations that may put a patient at undue risk
- Patient Safety 4 - Report potential or actual patient safety concerns, medical errors and/or near misses in a timely manner
- Patient Safety 5 - Encourage patients to actively participate in their own care by asking questions and reporting treatment or situations that they don't understand or may "not seem right"
- Patient Centered Med - Adhere to and promote the core expectations of the Patient Centered Medical Home or Patient Centered Specialty Practice as applicable
- Essential:
High School or GED Equivalent - Nonessential:
Program Graduate, Associate Degree - Education specialization:
Surgical Technician, Medical Assistant Program, Society of Gastroenterology Nurses and Associates Program
- Essential: 1 year directly related experience
- Nonessential:
No preferred experience
- Essential: CPR for Healthcare/BLS Prov or Prof Rescuers within 30 days
Medium Work:
Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.
- Sig Hazard:
Chemicals, Bio Hazardous Materials require PPE - May be required or is required to perform on-call duties
- Tuberculosis testing is completed upon hire and additionally as required
