Clinical Research Supervisor
The University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center Pediatrics Department encompasses a statewide network of hospitals, clinics, and community-based services dedicated to advancing pediatric health through clinical excellence, education, and research. Within this system, the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology division provides the only comprehensive pediatric cancer and blood disorders program in New Mexico, offering a unique opportunity to support clinical, academic, research, and community-facing work.
The Clinical Research Supervisor coordinates, oversees, and quality-controls the execution of federally regulated clinical research studies, including multi-site pediatric oncology, hematology, hemophilia, and translational research trials. This position ensures full compliance with IRB/Human Research Review Committee (HRRC) requirements, Good Clinical Practice (GCP), federal/state regulations, institutional policies, and grant/contract parameters.
The supervisor provides day-to-day technical leadership, administrative oversight, and direct supervision of one staff member—a Research Technician 2—who supports data collection, biospecimen handling, and study coordination tasks. The role is responsible for operational strategy, workflow development, regulatory oversight, and ensuring accurate, reliable, and timely research data and biospecimen management.
The Clinical Research Supervisor collaborates closely with clinical investigators, IRB staff, national research organizations, study sponsors, and internal partners to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of all research, regulatory, and data collection activities. Duties include reviewing case report forms and source documents for completeness, accuracy, and compliance; initiating corrective actions; ensuring timely submission of research data; monitoring patient response to treatment as defined by protocol;
and coordinating transmission of clinical data to national research organizations. This position is integral to sustaining high-quality research operations and advancing the mission of pediatric cancer and hematology research at UNM.

- May be required to submit to annual TB and rubella screening.
- UNM will provide Hepatitis vaccination, candidate may decline vaccination through declination form or may provide record of vaccination from previous employer.
- Specialty licensure/certification may be required, as specified by the department.
- Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
- Must maintain certification status.
High school diploma or GED; at least 7 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Certification/Licensure:
Current ACRP Certification as Clinical Research Coordinator or eligible for certification.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a clinical research coordinator in oncology, hematology, or a related specialty.
- Recent experience with chart abstraction and IRB submissions.
- Experience with biospecimen processing and shipment.
- Experience designing and implementing research documentation systems and workflows.
- Provides technical and administrative supervision to research staff and oversees daily research operations.
- Ensures compliance with IRB/HRRC, GCP, FDA (as applicable), and institutional regulatory requirements.
- Oversees execution of complex clinical research protocols, including consent, enrollment, and data integrity.
- Manages IRB submissions and maintains audit-ready regulatory documentation.
- Ensures accuracy and quality of clinical research data and biospecimen handling.
- Supports budgeting, billing compliance, audits, and sponsor monitoring activities.
