The Section for Child Safety and Well-Being is recruiting a full-time Medical Assistant to provide direct, professional care for children and adolescents with concerns for child maltreatment, including sexual abuse and sexual assault. The Section for Child Safety and Well-Being is housed in the Department of Pediatrics and is located in downtown Albuquerque.
Responsibilities- The Medical Assistant prepares necessary equipment and assists the physician during examinations and treatments;
- Performs medical assistant evaluations of new and existing patients;
- Administers prescribed medications;
- Applies sterile dressings;
- Performs phlebotomy;
- Performs care coordination activities including patient scheduling and follow-up;
- Maintains confidentiality of patient records.
- CPR Certified.
- May be required to submit immunization records for review for required vaccines and TB testing.
- UNM will provide Hepatitis vaccination, candidate may decline vaccination through declination form or may provide record of vaccination from previous employer.
- A pre-employment background investigation may be required.
- Successful candidate must submit to post-offer, pre-employment physical examination and medical history check.
- Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the University's influenza vaccination requirement.
High school diploma or GED;
Medical Assistant certificate or currently enrolled in a medical, nursing or pharmacy program or at least 1 year of experience in a medical field.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience in medical evaluation of children
- Experience in medical evaluation of persons who have experienced abuse or assault
- Experience with Pediatric and adolescent gynecological issues, including STD’s and family planning services
- Bilingual in Spanish/English
- Ability to draw peripheral blood
- Experience working with multidisciplinary teams, including but not limited to CYFD and/or Law Enforcement Agencies
- Knowledge of clinical facilities, instruments, and equipment
- Knowledge of appropriate procedures and standards for the administration of medications and patient care aids
- Experience in preparing and maintaining patient medical records.
