HS Research Tech 1
The University of New Mexico School of Medicine, Department of Cell Biology and Physiology is currently recruiting for a HS Research Technician 1. The Vascular Physiology Group investigates mechanisms that regulate vascular function in both health and disease. Our research spans cellular, molecular, and systemic processes to understand how vascular cells, signaling pathways, and hemodynamic forces work together to maintain cardiovascular and metabolic health and how disruptions in these processes contribute to age- and disease-related vascular dysfunction.
Duties include:
- Animal care and husbandry, including genotyping
- Routine cell culture
- Laboratory organization, ordering, and equipment maintenance
- Safety and compliance management
- Support Training

Conditions of Employment:
- For individual positions in which driving is a job requirement, a valid NM driver’s license and valid UNM driver’s permit will be required.
- Successful candidate must submit to post‑offer, pre‑employment physical examination and medical history check.
- Annual TB testing may be required if working in a patient care area.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or GED; at least 1 year of directly related student practicum or equivalent experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, biomedical sciences, or another biological or health‑related field.
- Previous working experience in a research laboratory.
- Knowledge of scientific research methodology, laboratory, and chemical safety.
- Experience maintaining supply inventory, collecting, and organizing research data.
- Experience in laboratory work including safety protocols and animal husbandry.
- High level of organization and attention to detail in documentation of research methodology, protocols, and procedures.
- Experience with laboratory ordering.

Pay: Hourly: $18.09 – $23.27
