A Research Technician 1 is being sought to join the laboratory of Dr. Ryoma “Puck” Ohi in the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Molecular Medicine at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center, with lab space located on the 2nd floor of Cancer Research Facility (CRF). Studies in the Ohi laboratory focus on the microtubule cytoskeleton with an emphasis on tubulin post‑translational modifications (PTMs) and tubulin PTM “readers”.
The laboratory uses a wide range of techniques, which includes biochemistry, cell culture, and quantitative optical microscopy. The successful applicant will be expected to carry out administrative and organizational tasks, which include ordering and upkeep of standard laboratory reagents. The role will also include molecular cloning, cell culture, and protein isolation from either prokaryotic or eukaryotic sources. Proficiency in the following techniques will be considered assets: PCR, DNA cloning, immunoblotting, protein purification, microbiology, microscopy and cell culture.
Applicants should hold a university degree in the biological sciences, although other backgrounds will be considered. The candidate should be highly motivated and able to work independently. Additionally, good organizational skills and an ability to interact productively with others are requisites. The candidate will be expected to assist other laboratory members.

Conditions of Employment- For individual positions in which driving is a job requirement, a valid NM driver's license and valid UNM driver's permit will be required.
- Successful candidate must submit to post‑offer, pre‑employment physical examination and medical history check.
- Annual TB testing may be required if working in a patient care area.
High school diploma or GED; at least 1 year of directly related student practicum or equivalent experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
