Position: Planning Assistant II (Planning - Building & Development Svc)

Perform a variety of functions in the field of current or comprehensive planning; to include providing information and answering questions from the general public regarding City of Albuquerque requirements, processes and deadlines; process permit applications, building inspections, business registration, contractor licenses and/or certificates of occupancy. Maintain and input information into the database as it all levels of current of comprehensive planning and construction projects for residential and commercial developments and/or redevelopment projects.

Prepare and maintain paper files and records on each project, ensuring that all processes, and deadlines are followed and complied, as per the City's applicable laws, zoning requirements, and code enforcement regulations.

Education directly related to the minimum requirements below may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.

High school diploma or GED;

and

Four (4) years of administrative support or field experience related to any combination of the following areas:

  • urban design and development
  • planning practices and procedures
  • zoning requirements
  • code enforcement processes
  • general construction
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.

Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.

  • Report writing, research methods and data compilation
  • Mathematical principles as associated to a project or assignment
  • Principles, practices and techniques of record
  • Modern office methods, practices, procedures with an in-depth knowledge of using computer equipment
  • Various software applications
  • Principles and practices of planning
  • Building permit software, word processing programs and databases
  • Pertinent laws, codes, ordinances and regulations and processes s it relates to planning projects and the general public
  • Interpret laws underlying the general plan, zoning and applicable laws and regulations
  • Interpret and explain planning and zoning programs to the general public
  • Read and interpret construction documents, mapping and survey data, site plans, zoning codes, legal descriptions and related information
  • Compile technical and statistical information and prepare clear and concise staff reports, and board or committee packets in preparation of upcoming meetings, committee meetings, or hearings
  • Perform data entry into a database
  • Operate and use modern office equipment including a computer and scanner
  • Communicate clearly and concisely
  • Provide clear and concise information to the general public at all times
  • Perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
