The Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court is recruiting for a full-time, permanent Court Probation Officer 2 (Job #) in the Standard Probation Division in Albuquerque, NM. Opening Date: 01-20-2026. Close Date: 02-01-2026. Target Pay Range/Rate: $24.736-$30.920 hourly or $51,451 - $64,314 annually.

Responsibilities

Under direction, perform duties related to pre-sentencing reports, treatment and sentencing recommendations, supervision of defendants on probation, and case management. Specific tasks include:

  • Prepare pre-sentencing reports and present recommendations on treatment and sentencing in court.
  • Investigate defendants’ educational, family, criminal and social background, and prior treatment compliance; assess risks and needs for treatment or program admission.
  • Review police and court reports, analyze and justify treatment and sentencing recommendations, and implement supervision plans for defendants.
  • Monitor compliance with sentencing and probation conditions; schedule and conduct regular meetings; perform crisis management and conflict resolution when needed.
  • Schedule hearings and notify involved parties; appear in court to elaborate on information in the pre-sentencing report; subpoena witnesses as needed.
  • Confer with state and defense attorneys; provide advice and recommendations; continuously report status of defendants to the court; maintain current roster and case files.
  • Respond to inquiries, provide information/referrals, and aid other law enforcement agencies or probation officers in investigations and supervision.
  • May assign and approve work of others, train employees, and provide informal feedback when the Chief Probation Officer is not available.
  • Maintain professionalism under stress and adhere to the assigned work schedule; perform other duties as assigned to meet operational needs.

Job Duties
  • The Court Probation Officer 2 conducts investigations on defendants/offenders, establishes needs, and develops an appropriate treatment support plan.
  • Participates in scheduled progress meetings at court-appointed locations.
  • Monitors defendants/offenders’ compliance at court hearings and with community service requirements; tracks and records participation.
  • Reports and notifies the court of compliance, non-compliance or program violations; recommends appropriate action.
  • Maintains current case files and documents interactions with program defendants/offenders and treatment providers in the case management system.
  • Performs scheduled and unannounced site visits to monitor program compliance.
  • Monitors program compliance using electronic monitoring technology.
  • Tracks and administers drug and alcohol screens; maintains screening protocols, equipment and supplies.
  • Participates in conferences, training, community outreach and educational programs related to court programs.
  • Prepares written and oral reports detailing program compliance and makes recommendations on future treatment or referrals.
  • Provides input during court proceedings and meetings with court staff and other treatment providers.

Competencies/Qualifications

The successful applicant should demonstrate knowledge of court-ordered rehabilitation or support programs, sentencing guidelines, treatment options and community services available;
New Mexico law, civil and criminal procedure; local court rules, policies and procedures, operations and structure; case management; legal terminology; substance abuse and mental health counseling and treatment; mediation techniques and conflict resolution; investigative techniques; drug screening methods; electronic monitoring equipment and technology; and court case management system.

Work Environment and Physical Demands
