Lead, oversee and participate in the more complex and difficult work of staff responsible for providing planning services to the City; create, organize and complete a major program and perform a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned areas of responsibility.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in planning or a field directly related to this job description; and
Five (5) years managerial planning experience; and
To include two (2) years supervisory experience.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:- Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
- Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.
May work flexible hours, including evening, weekends, and holidays as required.
Core Functions- Operations, services and activities of a planning program in assigned area
- Principles of lead supervision and training
- Methods and techniques of comprehensive planning
- Methods and techniques of research and analysis
- Modern office methods, practices, procedures and equipment, including computers necessary for graphic presentations, mapping and database management
- Planning and designing techniques within assigned area
- Technical report writing
- Laws, ordinances and regulations at the local, state and national levels governing planning activities in assigned area
- Lead, organize and review the work of staff in the area of work assigned
- Independently perform the most difficult planning tasks
- Analyze and compile technical and statistical information and reports
- Interpret, explain and enforce planning and development policies and procedures
- Interpret and apply laws, ordinances and regulations governing planning activities in assigned area
- Perform technical research and analyze data
- Work independently in the absence of supervision
- Communicate clearly and concisely
- Perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
