Budget Analyst Position Description
AMSG provides services in various areas including management and administrative support roles, project and budget analysis, document controls, federal payroll data entry, travel vouchers processing, technical editing/writing, purchase requests processing, and invoice tracking to a division under the Department of Energy.
The Budget Analyst Position is in Albuquerque, NM.
The candidate for this position will be responsible for the performance of work assigned in the performance work standards as well as performing at AMSG’s high-quality expectations.
The position is Monday through Friday 7am – 4 pm except for the Federal Holidays, and on site.
This is an entry level position with opportunities for growth.
Responsibilities Include:
- The Budget Analyst will support daily budget execution activities to include budget justification and the analyzing, tracking, and reconciliation of funding requirements.
- The Budget Analyst will have 2 years’ experience in budgeting, or related fields.
- Must have strong time management skills.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, including Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as SharePoint.
- Will assist with the maintenance of budget-related systems and ensures funds are appropriately allocated, tracked, and spent and evaluate organizational progression towards planned goals and deliverables.
- Must be proficient in utilizing various software products to assist with the organization, presentation, and integration of budget documentation, reports, and presentations both internally and for external distribution.
- Provide advice and assistance to program staff on format, content, processes, and strategies utilized to meet budget-related requirements and deliverables. Recommends or adapts policies and procedures for estimating budgeting needs or controlling expenditures.
- Support the Budget Execution Branch, Project Managers, senior technical personnel, and other support staff to resolve discrepancies, ensuring that changes are appropriately reported to all interested parties and modifications are made to the Funds Management System (FMS) within three business days. The Analyst will follow up to ensure modifications have been made.
- Provide support to the Budget Execution Branch by reviewing, validating, tracking, and processing approximately, but not limited to, 600 OST travel vouchers per month. The Analyst will be knowledgeable in the Federal Travel Regulations and DOE travel policies.
- Must possess strong attention to detail skills and be able to track discrepancies, provide professional communication to OST staff to resolve travel issues, and maintain a detailed log of travel issues all within a very short timeframe.
- The Budget Analyst will be the backup for the technical writer/editor position.

- STARS (Standard Accounting and Reporting System, financial management system)
- IPORTAL (Business Intelligence Service for Dashboard, Reporting, and Desktop integration for data warehousing)
- Concur Government Edition (Travel authorization, booking, and travel voucher)
- OST Share Point (procurement tracking)
- STRIPES (Strategic Integrated Procurement Enterprise System (Purchase Requisition s)
- FAST (Financial Accounting Support Tool)
Education:
- Bachelors degree
- Minimum of two years’ experience in budgeting or related field
