What Your Job Will Be Like
We are seeking an Intern Year Round - R&D Grad
On any given day, you may be called on to:
- Assisting with research
- Application of project design and diagnostics
- Testing and documentation
- Development and analysis of technology options
- Assembly and troubleshooting
We are focused on developing the next generation of experts in the field of computer security from the software stack down to embedded hardware. Our program fosters students abilities to address the serious and unique challenges existing in the realm of cyber security research, and encourages the exploration of original ideas necessary to keep pace with the rapid changes in information technology and the increasing sophistication of cyber threats.
Students will gain experience in some of the following: operating systems analysis, virtualization technologies including software defined networking, distributed systems, storage, and algorithm analysis and development, advanced modeling and emulation, machine learning, reverse engineering, network programming, cryptography research and analysis, and much more. Projects range from working on small research and development (R&D) efforts to large, multidisciplinary team collaborations.
Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.
Salary RangeAt Sandia, we value the important work done by our interns and its contribution to National Security. Because of this, our interns earn competitive pay rates. Our pay structure is based on earned credit hours, classification, and degree level. Your pay rate will be determined during the hire process and included in your offer package. QualificationsWe Require
- Earned bachelor's degree
- Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited science, engineering, or math graduate program
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
- Ability to work up to 30 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
- U.S. citizens, legal permanent residents, asylees or refugees in the U.S.
- GPA of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.
- Working knowledge and understanding of an engineering or science-related field as listed in the job specification section.
- Software development, network programming, system testing, virus and malicious code defense and basic cryptography.
- Typical skills for our research projects include, but are not limited to:
Software tools such as IDA Pro, VMware, Wireshark, and GNURadio;
Programming and Scripting languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, Python, Ruby, PHP, SQL, and MATLAB. - Computer hardware knowledge such as FPGA design using VHDL or Verilog, Low‑Level Programming; EE skills such as Circuit Design and Analysis, Circuit and Digital Logic Simulation, Hardware and Firmware Debugging using In‑Circuit Emulators, and Parsing Electronic Components Datasheets.
- General Research areas for our projects have included technology areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Cryptography, Data Mining, Applied Algorithms and Data Structures, Graphic Modeling Software, Machine Learning, Malware, Mobile Device Application Development, Malicious Code Behavior, Networking Protocols, Penetration Testing, Vulnerability Assessments, Reverse Engineering, Red Teaming, Virtual Machines, Forensic Analysis, Digital Signal Processing, Software Defined Radio/Networking, and Wireless Communications.
