This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for an Intermediate Geologist / Hydrogeologist for our Albuquerque, NM office. Be involved in projects with our US Mine Water & Environment Group and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client objectives and solves their challenges. In this role you will have the opportunity to work as a part of a regional team on challenging mining, geotechnical, and hydrogeological projects.
YourImpact
- Working within our Mine Closure / Mine Environment Team on geology and hydrogeology projects within the mining industry and beyond
- Field data collection planning and implementation in support of hydrogeologic interpretation including:
- roundwater and surface water sampling and field testing
- Geologic logging of boreholes
- Monitoring well installation
- Oversight of hydraulic well tests
Multimedia sampling - Installation and maintenance of field instrumentation for groundwater, surface water, and vadose zone monitoring.
- Utilize the latest technologies and techniques to interpret hydrogeologic and hydrologic data using data manipulation tools while maintaining quality control standards and procedures.
- Supervision of drilling and construction/ remediation contractors, collection of soil, rock, and groundwater samples, and other tasks in support of a wide variety of projects and environmental investigations.
- Contribute to large, cross functional and multidisciplinary projects with on-call components while working with engineers, geochemists, ecologists, GIS specialists, and other environmental experts.
- Communicate and document site conditions, observations, and activities.
- Understand the regulatory environment to successfully complete project work.
- Demonstrate Health, Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) excellence, including complying with various guidelines, requirements, and goals as set.
- Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Hydrogeology, Geology, Geologic Engineering, Environmental Science, or closely related discipline.
- 2 to 5 years of relevant post-education experience.
- Proficiency in MS Word and MS Excel.
- Strong analytical skills including the ability to complete data calculations and analyses.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and on teams.
- Comfortable working in remote settings.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
- Travel may require working from a remote field location away from home for extended periods of time; typically, up to 10 days.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Ability and willingness to travel to project sites throughout the Western United States depending on project-specific requirements.
- Ability to or willingness to learn to drive 4x4 trucks on city highways and unpaved terrain in all weather conditions.
- Basic proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
- Master's degree in Hydrogeology, Geology, Geologic Engineering, Environmental Science, or closely related discipline.
- College level hydrogeology course or practical experience with hydrogeology work.
- Geologist in Training (GIT) or Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification or the ability to complete the exam within one year of start date.
- MSHA 24-hour Metal and Non-Metal Surface Mining certification.
- OSHA 40-hour certification 40-hour HAZWOPER certification.
- Familiarity with discipline-specific software (i.e., AQTESOLV, Surfer, Log Plot, GIS, Leapfrog, and AutoCAD).
- Field activities may require working in unfavorable weather conditions
- Ability to drive large pick-up trucks
- Ability to use hands to operate field equipment
- Ability to stoop, kneel, climb, and lift up to 40 pounds
