Under general supervision, the Database Administrator is responsible for the following:

  • Maintain and enhance holistic asset management databases to support accurate tracking of substation equipment, design packages, and specification reviews.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to develop and validate substation equipment testing procedures and integrate test results into centralized data systems for analysis and decision‑making.
  • Support resolution of emergent issues by providing timely access to historical and real‑time data on substation construction projects and equipment performance.
  • Research and implement data‑driven solutions for asset health monitoring, enabling condition‑based maintenance strategies through integration of sensor data and analytics platforms.
  • Forecast and schedule maintenance activities by leveraging database insights for both time‑based and condition‑based maintenance across transmission and distribution systems.
  • Ensure data accuracy and completeness for equipment records, including large power transformers, switch gear, and high‑voltage breakers, and assist in reviewing equipment lists for project planning.
  • Coordinate with OEMs and vendors to integrate product data and specifications into internal systems, aligning offerings with project requirements and engineering standards.
  • Manage technical documentation repositories, ensuring manufacturer manuals and procedures are accessible and aligned with operational and maintenance protocols.
  • Support field inspections and equipment verification by maintaining mobile‑accessible databases that reflect current design standards and equipment specifications.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and safety standards (e.g., IEEE, NESC, NERC) by maintaining audit‑ready records and supporting engineering teams with data for compliance reporting.
  • Provide technical support and training to field personnel and junior staff on database tools, data entry standards, and reporting functionalities.
  • Communicate data insights and recommendations effectively to engineering, operations, and external stakeholders to support informed decision‑making.
  • Contribute to the development of new standards and tools by applying database expertise to improve data workflows, reporting capabilities, and system integrations.
  • Uphold safety and data integrity standards in all database management activities, ensuring timely and secure access to critical operational data.
Competencies Technical Expertise
  • Database Management:
    Proficient in administering, maintaining, and optimizing relational and non‑relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, Cascade, Powerbase).
  • Windows Server Management: including knowledge of Active Directory, Power Shell automation, and secure data services to support the reliable operation and integration of asset management systems in electric utility environments.
  • Data Integration:
    Skilled in integrating data from engineering systems, asset management tools, and vendor platforms.
  • Data Quality & Governance:
    Ensures accuracy, consistency, and integrity of data across systems.
  • Scripting & Automation:
    Ability to write scripts (e.g., SQL, Python) to automate data workflows and reporting.
  • System Security:
    Knowledge of database security best practices, access controls, and compliance requirements.
Engineering Collaboration
  • Technical Communication:
    Effectively translates engineering requirements into data solutions and communicates database insights to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Asset Management Support:
    Understands utility asset life cycles and supports engineering teams with data for design, maintenance, and reliability planning.
  • Equipment Familiarity:
    Basic understanding of substation equipment (e.g., transformers, breakers, switch gear) and ability to manage related data.
Analytical & Problem‑Solving
  • Root Cause Analysis:
    Uses data to support troubleshooting of equipment failures or project issues.
