Job SummaryOur Client is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to provide technical leadership in the design, development, and delivery of advanced automation systems across diverse industrial environments. This role leads full lifecycle automation projects, partnering directly with customers to define requirements, establish standards, and implement scalable PLC, DCS, HMI, and SCADA solutions.
Position ImpactThis position serves as a senior technical authority responsible for delivering innovative automation systems, establishing engineering design standards, and driving profitable, high-performance execution across complex industrial projects.
Key ResponsibilitiesAs a Senior Controls Engineer, you will be responsible for:
Automation Architecture & Implementation- Design, detail, and implement industrial control systems for complex processes and machinery.
- Develop control system architecture, including fiber, wired, and wireless systems using industrial protocols such as Ethernet/IP, Profinet, and Modbus.
- Program PLCs, DCS, and RTUs using Ladder Logic, Sequential Function Chart, Structured Text, and related languages.
- Develop HMI/SCADA systems including data visualization, alarming strategies, and historical archiving.
- Build and integrate databases using SQL, .NET, VBA, Power BI, Grafana, and APIs.
- Commission and validate control systems at client facilities.
- Establish and maintain engineering design standards related to graphics, alarming, and scalable system development.
- Lead engineering teams in delivering automation solutions independently or as a team leader.
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical oversight on project deliverables.
- Support repeat business through strong client relationships and solution excellence.
- Develop project execution strategies, schedules, and budgets.
- Oversee financial tracking and ensure project profitability.
- Identify and resolve technical and project risks proactively.
- Support execution of projects up to $1M in value.
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Computer Science.
- 10+ years of Controls Engineering experience.
- Must be local to Albuquerque, NM or have established ties to the area. Relocation assistance is not available.
- Demonstrated experience designing and implementing fiber, wired, and wireless control systems using industrial protocols (Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus, etc.).
- Proficiency in controller programming languages including Ladder Logic, Sequential Function Chart, and Structured Text.
- Experience using standard programming languages such as VBA, .NET, and SQL for HMI/SCADA system development.
- Strong experience with SQL, .NET, Power BI, Grafana, and API integrations.
- In-depth knowledge of PLC hardware/software platforms including Rockwell Automation, Siemens, and Modicon.
- Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership on automation design standards including graphics, alarming strategies, and system scale-up.
- Electrical schematic design experience including 480
VAC power distribution. - Experience with HMI/SCADA platforms such as ICONICS Genesis

A System Platform, GE CIMPLICITY, GE iFIX, or Factory Talk View. - Experience in semiconductor fabrication, life sciences, building automation, food & beverage, oil & gas, or mining industries.
- Experience with AutoCAD.
- PE license preferred.
