Principal Electrical Engineer

As a Principal Electrical Engineer at Black Ve, Inc, you will play an integral role in design, analysis, integration, and testing of our spacecraft. You will be critical member of our Spacecraft Programs team by leading the design, analysis, integration, and test of electrical and power systems. This will include interfacing with teams of cross-functional scientists, engineers, software developers, and technicians to ensure spacecraft electrical systems operate successfully on-orbit.

You will be required to identify and lead work within a small and agile team on a broad set of tasks and ensure the highest quality product through all phases of the space element design, build, test and operations. • Lead the design, development, and validation of electrical systems and components for spacecraft integration, including power distribution, telemetry, communications, and command subsystems.
• Oversee the integration and functional testing of electrical subsystems to ensure compliance with technical and regulatory requirements.
• Decompose, analyze, and translate complex customer and mission requirements into functional specifications and engineering requirements.
• Identify and resolve electrical and integration issues throughout the system lifecycle, including design, assembly, and testing phases.
• Develop and maintain detailed engineering documentation, including block diagrams, wiring schematics, interface control documents (ICDs), and test reports.
• Mentor and provide technical oversight to junior engineers and project teams, fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration.
• Work closely with other engineering teams, program management, technician teams to resolve technical challenges.

• Degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field with 10 to 15 years of relevant experience in electrical system design, analysis, integration, and test for spacecraft systems. A relevant Master’s degree may be substituted for 2 years of experience.
• Proven track record of successfully leading electrical system design and power system design for spacecraft that operate in the orbital space environment
• Proficiency using electrical engineering tools such as Altium Designer, LTspice, and MATLAB
• Strong understanding of space environmental considerations, including radiation, thermal constraints, and electromagnetic compatibility
• Must have the ability to qualify and maintain a Top Secret security clearance

• Experience with all phases of a spacecraft lifecycle: concept, design, analysis, assembly, integration, test, launch, and on-orbit operations.
• Hands-on experience building and testing electrical systems, harness, and cables to IPC standards
• Familiarity with high-reliability electrical components and design for radiation-tolerance
• Ability to effectively communicate professionally in writing or verbally with all levels of personnel.
• Familiarity with model-based systems engineering practices and tools Hands-on experience with national security space systems
• Experience with control of sensitive and confidential information as required by company standards

This position is based in Albuquerque, NM, with occasional travel to other company locations, partner facilities or launch sites as needed.
