Job Description

We are seeking an electrical engineering team lead for our electrical engineering design and analysis team with extensive hands‑on experience with analog and digital electronics, PCB design, and embedded applications in the design of our high‑reliability, radiation‑hardened space systems. Working at AV, you will have the opportunity to be involved in every aspect of electrical design in many different programs, support engineering efforts from concept to production.

The engineering team lead will support design activities on programs while maintaining the ability to manage their functional groups readiness to meet business needs. Thus, this posting is for both an experienced engineer as well as someone with the skills and desire for personnel management.

Responsibilities
  • Management and growth of a small electrical engineering team with varied experience and skill levels. At AV, electrical engineers are responsible for system architecture, schematic capture, PCB layout, analysis (radiation, reliability, worst case analysis, etc.), cable design, and initial unit(s) integration and test activities.
  • Development and growth of a small electrical engineering team (mentorship, hiring, training, career path, individual & group goals, business alignment).
  • Responsible for satisfactory execution of all electrical engineering work with a team of approximately 4‑6 engineers.
  • Directly supporting a complex space electronics program from concept through production with the development of core subsystems for a spacecraft and supporting systems.
  • Creating, maintaining, and communicating product development schedules with sufficient detail to ensure that all assigned personnel are aware of their tasks and deadlines.
  • Leading an electrical engineering team to develop flight architectures and designs for high reliability, resiliency, redundancy and/or fault tolerance.
  • Collaborating with other functions to define product requirements, developing specifications for all critical circuit card modules, writing and executing design verification test plans.
  • Supporting software and firmware team's development effort with an understanding of flight controls, integration, power management, and networking.
  • Lead the development of high‑level architecture and detailed designs consistent with specifications for various electronic products.
  • Review testing and analysis activity to assure compliance to requirements.
  • Identify, track, and status technical performance measures to measure progress and ensure compliance with requirements.
  • Support development and continuous improvement of engineering processes and best practices through writing of documentation and implementation in engineering teams.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, or equivalent STEM discipline.
  • Prior experience either directly supervising multiple employees, or as a team leader indirectly managing a small team of engineers.
  • 7+ years experience with Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design, simulation, and layout.
  • Experience with mixed signal circuit card design and simulation, including devices such as amplifiers, analog‑to‑digital converters, digital‑to‑analog converters, digital functions, microprocessors, and point‑of‑load regulators.
  • Understanding of common communications interfaces, including RS‑232, RS‑422, RS‑485, SPI, I2C, LVDS, and Ethernet.
  • Experience using common electronic test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, signal analyzers, and function generators.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in performing analysis necessary for space electronics including worst case circuit analysis, circuit stress analysis, reliability analysis, etc.
  • Experience with programming languages including C, C++, VHDL, and MATLAB scripting.
  • Developed technology within an AS9100 or ISO 9001:2015 certified organization.
  • Successful transition of electronics technology to production.
  • Supported production of electronics systems or assemblies (design changes, parts replacement, cost of poor quality, fabrication process improvements, in‑production testing, etc.).
