Our client is growing and their Aviation & Federal mechanical engineering team is looking for a Sr. Mechanical Engineer who will lead mechanical design teams to create world-class designs for new builds, alterations, and redevelopments on a variety of projects, specifically focusing on projects for the Department of Energy (DOE). The Senior Mechanical Engineer will lead the project team throughout the design and construction process, adapting mechanical plans according to budget constraints, design factors, and client needs.
Responsibilities- Lead mechanical design, overseeing projects from the initial conceptual phase through design completion in alignment with project managers specifications.
- Prepare mechanical equipment documentation, including packaged equipment specifications, data sheets, RFQs, technical bid summaries, and purchase recommendations.
- Review mechanical equipment vendor drawings and collaborate with suppliers, clients, and other engineering disciplines, detailers, and designers.
- Shape project schedules, scopes, budgets, staffing plans, and construction plans. Ensure efficient management of change orders.
- Apply expertise in common mechanical concepts, practices, codes, and procedures within the mechanical engineering services industry.
- Apply expertise to find innovative design solutions for complex projects that may require non-standard approaches.
- Conduct quality reviews of production drawings across various projects and related data as needed by project managers to confirm corrections within multiple CAD software. Proficiency in Revit & AutoCAD is preferred.
- Experience using building mechanical design tools required (i.e., Trane TRACE).
- Conduct quality reviews of the construction administration, working closely with field personnel to resolve design-related installation issues, calculations, field inspections, and mechanical system testing.
- Take the lead in field inspections, installation procedures, measurements, and calculations for both public and private clients.
- Prepare and deliver technical reports for clients and potentially contribute to industry publications.
- Cultivate strong relationships with existing clients, customers, and contractors while exploring new business opportunities. Ensure that customer satisfaction goals and expectations are consistently met.
- Actively participate in sales and marketing initiatives, identifying key pursuits that align with the company s strategic goals.
- Lead the development of cost proposals and qualification statements, striving to achieve predetermined targets and standards for financial performance.
- Create and present project budgets and cost estimates while reporting on project performance.
- Provide mentorship, guidance, and instruction to junior engineers within the mechanical engineering group.
- Uphold adherence to the QA/QC (Quality Assurance/Quality Control) process.
- Maintain effective communication with other engineering disciplines to ensure seamless project coordination.
- Uphold compliance with company and site safety policies.
- Fulfill any other duties or responsibilities as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field from an ABET accredited program. Or;
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam. - Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
- 7 years mechanical engineering experience - EPC project experience preferred.
- Professional Engineering License (PE) preferred.
- Expert knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical equipment design codes (ASME, ANSI, API, PIP, NACE).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to lead the discipline design for large projects, delegate work tasks to team members, and resolve issues in a team environment.
- Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to perform quality reviews for detailed engineering documents and specifications.
