Librarian

This position is part of the Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute, Bureau of Indian Education (BIE), Department of the Interior (DOI). As a Librarian you will be responsible for providing essential librarian and circulation functions for the college. Applicants must meet the qualification requirements contained in the OPM Standards.

• Completed 1 full academic year of graduate study in library science in an accredited college or university, in addition to completion of all work required for a bachelor's degree.
• OR Have a total of at least 5 years of a combination of college-level education, training, and experience. To qualify on this basis, the applicant must establish conclusively that the education, training, and experience provided a knowledge and understanding of the theories, principles, and techniques of professional librarianship; a knowledge of literature resources; and the knowledge and abilities essential for providing effective library and information services.

In addition to meeting the Basic Requirement, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications requirements below.

• GS-11:
  Possess one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal service that includes: teaching others to use technology or other equipment, maintaining inventories of library or archival resources, processing library materials, classifying library materials according to standard systems, developing library or archival databases, compiling specialized bibliographies or lists of materials, operating audiovisual equipment, serving on institutional or departmental committees.
• OR Have 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education in library science or doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) related to the position.
• OR Possess a combination of successfully completed graduate-level education beyond the second year of progressive graduate study and specialized experience that together meets 100% of the qualification requirements for the position.

Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year (52 weeks) of service at the next lower grade level.
