The Biology department at the University of New Mexico (UNM) anticipates hiring adjunct faculty to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses for the Summer 2026, Fall 2026, and Spring 2027 semesters. Intentional openings are for instructors who can teach in a broad range of subject areas, including but not limited to the following UNM courses: BIOL 419/519 (SW Field Ecology), BIOL 351 (Microbiology), BIOL 302C (Genetics), BIOL 2225 (Anatomy and Physiology II).

Instructors are responsible for all aspects of any class they are teaching. Responsibilities include meeting with the class during assigned times, delivering the course curriculum, developing and grading assignments, reporting grades, and assessing student learning outcomes as outlined by the Chair of the department or Director of the program.
Positions are contingent upon semester need, as determined by student enrollment levels, the current course schedule, and demand driven by graduation requirements. Positions may be filled or eliminated each semester up to the deadline for students to drop or add courses. Candidates selected will report to the Chair of the Biology department.
Best Consideration Dates: Summer 2026 semester — March 1, 2026;
Fall 2026 semester — June 1, 2026;
Spring 2027 — October 1, 2026.
Minimum Qualifications: To teach courses as described above, the following Higher Learning Commission accreditation requirements for faculty must be met by one of these ways:
Master’s Degree or higher in Biology or subfield for which you are applying;
Master’s Degree or higher in a related field other than Biology; or Successful completion of at least 18 graduate credit hours in an accredited program in the discipline or subfield for which you are applying (e.g., BA or BS degree).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two years professional experience in the specialization or subfield.
- An earned doctorate from an accredited institution.
- Successful teaching experience at a post‑secondary institution.
- Experience teaching courses using a variety of teaching modalities (e.g., face‑to‑face, remote, fully online).
- A demonstrated commitment to cultivating an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university’s mission to serve local and global communities.
