Position Summary

The Speech & Hearing Sciences department is seeking qualified temporary part‑time faculty members to teach undergraduate and/or graduate level classes in various disciplines. Instructors are responsible for all aspects of any class they are teaching. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, meeting with the class during assigned times, delivering the course curriculum, developing and grading assignments, conducting weekly office hours, reporting grades, and assessing student learning outcomes as outlined by the department.

Positions are contingent upon need each semester as determined by student enrollment levels, courses on the current course schedule, and demand driven by graduation requirements. Positions may be filled or eliminated each semester up to the deadline for students to drop or add courses. Candidates who are selected will report to the Chair of the Speech & Hearing Sciences department.

Anticipated openings will be for Adjuncts who can teach courses in a broad range of subject areas, including but not limited to the subject areas covered in the following UNM courses:

  • SHS 302:
    Introduction to Communication Disorders
  • SHS 430:
    Child language development
  • SHS 431:
    Child language disorders
  • Hearing Science
  • SHS 310:
    Anatomy & Physiology

Please consult the UNM Catalog for descriptions of these courses. For best consideration, please apply by the following dates:

  • Fall 2025 semester – July 15, 2025
  • Spring 2026 semester – October 15, 2026
  • Summer 2026 semester – February 15, 2026
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum qualifications to teach courses as described above are determined by Higher Learning Commission's accreditation requirements for faculty, and must be met by one of these ways:

  • Master's Degree or higher in speech or hearing sciences or related field

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified SLP or Audiologist through ASHA.
  • Two years professional experience in the specialization or subfield
  • An earned doctorate from an accredited institution
  • Successful teaching experience in a post‑secondary institution
  • Successful experience teaching courses using a variety of teaching modalities (such as Face‑to‑Face, Remote, and Fully Online)
  • A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities.
