Position Summary
The Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology (CCB) at the University of New Mexico (UNM) invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Organic Chemistry to begin on August 10, 2026. This is a full‑time, tenure‑track position focused on experimental organic chemistry with a research emphasis in optoelectronic materials and/or biomaterials. Applicants must hold a PhD in Chemistry or a closely related field by the date of application and must submit all application materials by November 5, 2025.
The new faculty member will teach core and required undergraduate and graduate courses in organic chemistry, offer elective courses in materials, supervise graduate students, and contribute through service and outreach activities. The candidate is expected to establish a nationally recognized research program that attracts sustained external funding and strengthens departmental expertise, aligning with long‑term strategic goals and leveraging local resources such as NMR and mass spectrometry facilities, federal laboratories, and collaborative centers on campus.
Responsibilities- Teach core and required undergraduate and graduate organic chemistry courses.
- Develop and teach elective materials courses.
- Supervise graduate students.
- Contribute to the department’s visibility through service and outreach.
- Establish and maintain a leading research program with national recognition and continuous external funding.
- Minimum
- Ph.D. in Chemistry or a closely related field by the date of application.
- Evidence of primary specialization in organic chemistry with research emphasis in optoelectronic materials and/or biomaterials.
- Post‑doctoral research experience.
- Interest and ability to teach organic chemistry at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Preferred
- Potential to develop a nationally recognized, externally‑funded research program, evidenced through publication record and research statement.
- Demonstrated strength and commitment to teaching organic chemistry to diverse student populations.
- Interest in leveraging resources through collaborations with UNM and local institutions.
- Willingness to enhance departmental visibility via service and outreach activities.
- Commitment to fostering understanding of New Mexico’s cultures and advancing the university’s mission to serve local and global communities.
