Position Summary
The University of New Mexico, Department of Emergency Medicine, is seeking full-time physician faculty members. In addition to supporting our EM residency program, members will provide clinical care in both our academic and community hospital facilities. Based on their interest and experience, they will also support our educational, research or community engagement missions.
The Department of Emergency Medicine has 88 full-time and part-time attending physicians. We provide classroom and clinical education for the EMS Academy, as well as medical, pharmacy, and PA students. Our physician training programs have excellent national reputations and include our EM residency and fellowships in Pediatric EM, EMS, Ultrasound, Wilderness, Sports Medicine, and Medical Education. We have identified need in academic areas of expertise in PEM, EMS, Informatics, Simulation, Ultrasound, Quality and Operations.
UNM Hospital is New Mexico's only Level I Trauma Center, the only Children's Hospital, and the state's first Comprehensive Stroke Center. UNM Health System providers specialize in over 150 areas and receive 900,000 outpatient visits, 22,000 surgical cases and 100,000 emergency room visits each year. The School of Medicine, created in 1964, is celebrated for its research discoveries and innovations in medical education and has earned a reputation for prioritizing diversity in the physician and health professions workforce. The UNM Health Sciences Center integrates the School of Medicine with Schools of Population-Based Health, Pharmacy, and Nursing to offer unique inter-professional training and collaborative experiences.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Have a MD or DO degree
- Board certified or board eligible in Emergency Medicine
- 3 to 5 years of directly related experience which may include residency and fellowship.
- State of New Mexico Medical license and Federal DEA Certification at time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Clinical skills relevant to Emergency Medicine
- Communicate effectively with physicians, patients and other health professionals as well as with multi-lingual populations.
- Commitment and activities related to community engagement.
- Interest or experiences in scholarly, educational, or administrative work to include coaching and mentoring.
- Personal and professional alignment with the values of the Department and the UNM School of Medicine.
- A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
