Job PurposeThe Tennis Shop Assistant is responsible for delivering exceptional customer service to members and guests while supporting all day-to-day operations of the tennis shop. This role helps create a welcoming atmosphere, builds positive relationships, and ensures a memorable and seamless experience for all who visit.
Responsibilities- Provide high-quality customer service when checking in members and guests, scheduling court reservations, processing Point-of-Sale (POS) transactions, and entering tournament or league information.
- Answer phones and address inquiries in accordance with AGC standards.
- Manage court reservations by recording customer information, communicating fees, ensuring accurate court sheet documentation, and maximizing utilization through techniques such as double booking, credit card guarantees, callbacks, tournament play, and targeted selling.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked tennis shop, including merchandise, towels, balls, pace-of-play forms, and other supplies.
- Perform daily housekeeping such as vacuuming, restocking, and following AGC opening/closing procedures, including cash handling and end-of-day reconciliation.
- Set up ball machines, restring racquets (if applicable), verify stock levels, and assist with merchandise presentation.
- Monitor court and weather conditions to ensure safety and remove debris as needed.
- Support tournament operations by assisting with preparation, staging, scoreboards, format compliance, and rule regulation.
- Promote tennis programs: including tennis schools, junior programs, and leagues, to generate revenue and encourage member engagement.
- Resolve member and guest service issues promptly and professionally.
- Maintain a positive, service-oriented atmosphere through strong communication, organization, and multitasking in a fast-paced environment.
- Assist the Tennis Director or Tennis Professional with reports, inventory, pricing, promotions, or discounts as needed.
- Help train new tennis shop assistants when requested.
- Support and implement all AGC initiatives and management directives.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Experience stringing racquets preferred.
- Previous customer service experience, ideally in golf, tennis, hospitality, or related service industries.
- Basic math skills and experience handling cash and credit card transactions required.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with customers, co-workers, and management.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, multitask efficiently, and work a flexible schedule in a fast-paced environment.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Schedule varies based on business needs; evening, weekend, and holiday work is required.
- Duties may involve prolonged standing, walking, balancing, climbing, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting or carrying items up to 50 pounds.
- Requires manual dexterity, use of hands/fingers, and ability to push or pull equipment.
- Vision requirements include close, distance, peripheral, and color vision, plus the ability to adjust focus.
