Student Accompanist

Position Summary

The Theatre and Dance Department is seeking a trained accompanist to assist with our Contemporary Dance classes. This accompanist will provide Dance students the opportunity to train to and get accustomed to moving to live music. This student accompanist will work with the class instructor to provide the correct rhythms and needed sounds for each class.

• Enrolled in a degree seeking program at UNM, enrolled at least half-time (6 hours) at UNM for fall and spring semesters (audit hours do not count), and if Work Study, you must meet Satisfactory Academic Progress.

• Prior experience and training with a percussion instrument is mandatory.
• Ability to perform live and coordinate with the rhythm of the dancers in class.
• Ability to accompany each Contemporary class that requires live music.
• Ability to adapt and shift music types depending on what each dance piece needs.
