Overview
Perform journey level skilled construction modification, fabrication and installation; design, lay out, repair and modify a variety of construction projects, exhibits and perform various construction activities; perform a variety of technical tasks including carpentry, painting, welding, masonry, roofing and basic non-journeyman electrical and plumbing maintenance or repair; operate and maintain equipment relative to assigned area of responsibility.
Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.
Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in construction;
and
Three (3) years of experience in general building or facility construction.
Construction design, fabrication and welding experience preferred.
Additional RequirementsPossession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within 6 months from date of hire.

- Methods and techniques of welding
- Methods and techniques of block and brick laying
- Construction design and fabrication
- General electrical and plumbing techniques
- Methods and techniques of fence construction
- Methods and techniques of sheet rocking and plastering
- Methods and techniques of surface patching, painting and refinishing
- Occupational hazards and standard safety practices
- Correctly use and apply a variety of construction skills
- Design, read and interpret plans, blueprints and sketches
- Independently perform the most difficult design and fabrication of construction projects
- Interpret, explain and enforce department policies and procedures
- Work with plastic laminates and different types of adhesive
- Repair and/or replace damaged windows, drywall, tiles, roofing and related items
- Estimate time materials and equipment required for jobs
- Measure and cut materials precisely
- Evaluate safety procedures for construction site and set up construction boundaries as required
- Operate all equipment, woodworking and wood cutting machines effectively and safely
- Work independently in the absence of supervision
- Communicate clearly and concisely
- Perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
