PositionDescription
The Field Engineer works directly for the Superintendent and exercises judgment and discretion in implementing policies and procedures and handling a wide variety of field matters. The primary purpose is to proactively aid the Superintendent in front‑line field management. The FE is responsible for most of the project layout, supervision of trade workers and subcontractor employees, lift drawings, safety, and quality control responsibilities.
The role requires significant work, responsibility, persistence, problem‑solving ability and a positive attitude.
- 4‑year degree in Civil, Structural, Architecture or Construction Management.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Strong communication skills.
- Computer software – Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel‑based templates, Project Sight, Primavera and Auto Desk Suite.
- Past internships in the construction industry (preferred but not required).
- Project layout (surveying) in conformance with design and contract documents.
- Check concrete forms for accuracy and adequacy of construction, including all embedded items, before placement of concrete.
- Perform production trend analysis for quantities of work in place and generate weekly and monthly schedule and cost control reports.
- Assist with quality control, site safety initiatives and coordination of trade partners as delegated by the project superintendent; may include directing a small work force to gain supervisory experience.
- Coordinate material deliveries by checking material requirements in advance and comparing with delivery status; inspect materials for quantity, quality and condition, and report on missing and/or damaged items.
- Assist foremen and trade partners with interpretation of plans and specifications.
- Oversight of trade partners, as assigned, and direction of work forces (e.g., a labor crew) of employees or trade partner employees to gain supervisory experience.
- Participate in jobsite safety meetings, weekly safety audits, etc.
- Collaborate with the VDC team on VDC scope of work, execution plan and deliverables related to field operations; review and navigate within the current 3D model viewing and scheduling software.
Moderate Work. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- The individual will periodically walk, kneel, sit, crouch, reach, stoop, read/see, speak, push, pull, lift, stand, and finger/type.
- Walking – the person needs to occasionally move inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, boxes, cabinets, etc.
- Constantly operates a computer and other office machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, phone, computer, and printer.
- The person frequently communicates with employees and external stakeholders regarding a variety of office administration topics.
- Constantly computes, analyzes, and conceptualizes mathematical calculations and formulas.
