Position: Senior Accountant (DOH/SLD #10886)

Salary

$24.16 - $36.24 Hourly

$50,248 - $75,372 Annually

This position is a Pay Band C6

Why does the job exist?

The senior accountant position is responsible for processing all accounts receivable (AR). This includes creating fee for service invoices, distribution of invoice to customers, processing payments received as well as collecting on past due invoices. The senior accountant will complete monthly AR reconciliation and prepare journal entries. Assist the accounting supervisor with reviewing, researching, analyzing, and correcting financial data and reports of the general ledger, trial balance, and the journal entries.

Occupant will perform other duties as assigned within the fiscal team.

How does it get done?

Billing/Invoicing:

Prepare invoices with accurate department and revenue codes to bill customers for the services provided by the Scientific Laboratory.

Run revenue reports each month for all customers with past due invoices over 30 days. Send out past due notices and make collection attempts via email and phone. Maintain accurate and detailed records of collection attempts.

Post payments in the Scientific Laboratories accounts receivable system for all daily deposits (checks, electronic fund transfer, operations transfer, create revenue information sheets with accurate revenue funding, and deposit checks timely.

Reconciliation:

Monthly reconciliation of revenues and monthly billing.

Journal Entries:

Process journal entries in SHARE to correct discrepancies identified when reconciling the purchase order report, general ledger, revenue and expenditures. Process journal entries in accordance with Department of Health policies and procedures, and the Department of Finance Administration Model Accounting Practices (MAPS).

Who are the customers?

Department of Health Administrative Services Division employees, Department of Finance and Administration staff and suppliers of the laboratory.

Ideal Candidate

  • Detail oriented with the experience and ability to independently conduct audits, and reconciliations.
  • Knowledge of SHARE Financials.
  • Experience with multiple funding/revenue sources.
  • Solid understanding of the General Accepted Accounting Principles (MAPS).
  • Strong ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Auditing, or Business Administration and two (2) years directly related work experience in accounting, auditing, finance, and/or budgeting. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive a Defensive Driving Course certificate. In state and out of state travel may be required. Successful completion of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) is required.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting supporting a fully functional laboratory. There is extensive personal computer and phone usage, and repetitive trunk/arm/hand and neck movements. The fully functional laboratory contains biological, chemical, physical, and radiological hazards. Incumbent will be required to use all applicable safety equipment provided by the employer and follow all safety precautions specified by the employer. Ability to lift/push up to 50 lbs.
