Overview
The following statements reflect the general duties considered necessary to describe the principal functions of the job as identified and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements, which may be inherent in the position.
The Oncology Scheduler is responsible for scheduling all patient activities, including but not limited to, physician appointments, treatments, lab appointments, diagnostic imaging tests, procedures, phlebotomies, blood transfusions, appointments with outside physicians or clinics, etc. The scheduler is responsible for verifying insurance coverage for all scheduled events and acquiring any necessary precertifications or authorizations.
In addition to their scheduling duties, the scheduler will assist private pay or underinsured patients in their efforts to apply for benefits related to their oncology treatment, medications and hospital care. Under the direction of the Cancer Center Director and the supervision of the Oncology Clinical Manager, this employee is responsible for assisting patients in locating resources and qualifying patients to receive aid through a variety of governmental agencies, community resources and pharmaceutical companies.
This position is critical to ensuring the patient’s treatments are covered and the hospital receives the needed revenues for these treatments and services.

- Accurate and timely record keeping
- Follows up diligently with resources and patients
- Documents appropriately in the chart/ EMR in an accurate and timely manner
- Handles account inquiries timely, accurately and courteously
- Ability to assume responsibility and take initiative
EDUCATION:
High School Diploma or GED strongly preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
One year of experience in pre-cert/ scheduling, financial assistance or a related field.
