Job Purpose

Responsible for supporting the Corporate occupational health, safety, environmental, and loss control team for Progress Rail. Provides support-level assistance with Environmental, Health and Safety Strategies, policies and processes in support of Company’s operations. Responsible for assisting with the evaluation, development, planning, training, and implementation of environmental, safety, and health initiatives that will ensure a safe, healthy and accident-free working environment.

Key Job Elements
  • Provides support for inspections and tests planned to provide experience and familiarization with company operations, specific EHS issues and regulations, and company practices.
  • Collects and evaluates data.
  • Assists in reviewing various environmental programs.
  • Oversees and evaluates various aspects of EHS programs within facilities.
  • Assists more experienced professionals in developing solutions.
  • Assist with delivery and development of a variety of training programs.
  • Assist in preparing environmental compliance audits and inspections.
  • Provides support in documentation, reporting, and root cause analysis of spills and chemical releases.
  • Assists with preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting requirements for assigned programs.
  • Works with Corporate EHS team to help support environmental expectations and improve operating metrics.
  • Assist in the development, review and updating of policies and directives.
  • Assists with maintaining records and data necessary to evaluate compliance with regulatory and company standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education / Training
  • Working towards a BS Degree in Environmental, Scientific, Chemical, Civil, Safety or Engineering preferred.
  • Good understanding of environmental, health and safety practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to multi-task, follow-through, and work independently.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Must have valid driver’s license.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Working towards a BS Degree in Environmental, Scientific, Chemical, Civil, Safety or Engineering preferred.
  • Good understanding of environmental, health and safety practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to multi-task, follow-through, and work independently.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Must have valid driver’s license.
Essential and Physical Activities
  • Strength – Must be able to lift 40 lbs.
  • Motion – The position is primarily in an office setting requiring behind a desk the majority of the day utilizing a variety of office equipment such as computers, scanners, copies, etc.
  • Vision/Hearing – May spend long periods of time in front of computer screen. Will need to be able to read detailed billing statements and be detail oriented.
  • Work Environment – Will spend the majority of time in office environment, although exposed occasionally to plant exposure to hot and cold environments along with noise exposure.
  • Emotional Demands – Must have good communication skills. Be capable to multi-task and work independently. Ability to adapt to frequent changes in tasks and workload.
