Position: Drone Camp Instructor (Summer Program)

Overview

The Drone Camp Instructor will design and facilitate an engaging, hands‑on summer camp experience in which students learn to build, program and fly drones
. The camp will emphasize collaboration, problem-solving, and cultural connection, while introducing students to career pathways in Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS).

Program Dates

June 8-12, 2026 from 7:30-11:30 (students 8:00 - 11:00)

ALAS is part of a multi-district Collaborative Council (Alliance for Educational Equity). We are seeking a qualified, innovative, and student-centered educator to lead a week-long Drone Education camp for students in grades 9-12. This cross-district initiative brings together students from participating districts to explore drone technology, build marketable skills, and foster meaningful relationships across communities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver a structured, week-long drone education curriculum.
  • Facilitate hands‑on drone building, programming, flying, and racing activities.
  • Teach and model FAA safety standards and responsible drone operation.
  • Use varied instructional strategies including collaboration, project‑based learning, and flexible grouping.
  • Create a welcoming, inclusive environment that promotes student voice and belonging.
  • Collaborate with camp staff and district partners to ensure program success.
  • Support the student application and selection process to ensure equitable representation across districts.
  • Supervise students and maintain safe flight operations at all times.
Program Goals

The Drone Camp will:

  • Expose students to high-demand career pathways in UAS, including agriculture, real estate, law enforcement, government, and marketing.
  • Build technical skills in drone construction, flight operations, and safety protocols.
  • Promote cross-district collaboration and relationship‑building.
  • Ensure inclusive participation and representation of culturally, linguistically, and socio‑economically diverse students.
  • Foster positive interaction and understanding among students from neighboring communities.
Qualifications
  • Preferred:
    Valid FAA Remote Pilot Part 107 SUAS (Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems) license.
  • Valid MN teaching license Preferred.
  • Experience working with high school students
  • Knowledge of drone systems, flight operations, and safety procedures.
  • Ability to lead hands‑on, project‑based STEM learning experiences.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Compensation
  • Hourly per diem plus program prep hours and reporting at the conclusion of program (approximately 30 hours).
