The pay for this role ranges from $19.00 to $27.00 per hour, providing competitive compensation for your hard work. GPS experience and a valid driver’s license is a plus.

As an Experienced General Operator you will safely operate various pieces of equipment to achieve precise location and grading as outlined in the plans. Your role is crucial in delivering high‑quality finished products on Highway Projects. In addition to operating equipment, you must be willing to adapt and perform other duties as directed by the grading foreman. This position requires a proactive and safety‑conscious individual eager to learn and grow within an energetic and professional team.

To excel in this role you must possess a strong foundation in operating earth‑moving equipment such as dozers and excavators, with at least 3+ years of experience in the field. Knowledge of heavy equipment operation and safety standards is crucial, along with the ability to maintain, inspect, and clean equipment efficiently. The successful candidate will demonstrate a keen eye for detail, situational awareness, and a conscientious work ethic to uphold a safe working environment.

Physical capabilities—including standing for extended periods, lifting up to 90 pounds, and navigating uneven surfaces—are essential.

Prior experience in grading, reading grade stakes and plans, and a respectful demeanor towards colleagues, customers, and the public are highly valued. Flexibility in working hours, teamwork, and self‑motivation are key attributes for thriving in this position.

• 3+ years experience working with earth‑moving equipment, i.e. dozer and excavator
• Insurable, current driver license Preferred!
• Knowledge of proper operation of heavy equipment as well as safety standards; ability to maintain, inspect, clean, and occasionally repair heavy equipment
• Keen attention to detail and situational awareness to maintain the safety of the work environment
• A strong work ethic; employee must be able to stand for extended periods of time and to stoop, bend, and crouch as required
• Ability to lift and carry, on a frequent basis, at least 50 pounds and at times, as much as 90 pounds, as may be assigned
• Maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities of the construction site including the activities of other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment and the movement of mobile equipment
• Frequently walk on uneven surfaces including natural ground in varying weather conditions; able to work outside in all weather conditions
• Must be able to climb on and off heavy mobile equipment safely
• Willing to perform some manual labor as needed and directed by supervisor
• Reliable transportation to and from the Albemarle Office or jobsite
