Job Description
American Traveler is seeking a Med/Surg Tele RN with at least 18 months of recent med/tele experience, a NC or compact RN license, and key certifications including BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS.
Responsibilities- Position is based on a 35-bed Med/Surg Tele unit in a hospital setting
- Patient population includes general med/surg cases such as stroke, CHF, COPD, respiratory illnesses, diabetes, post-surgical, and behavioral health
- Average patient census is 22 with RN ratios of 1:5-6, acuity dependent; may surge to 1:7-8
- Shift options available include nights from
- Requires every other weekend rotation
- Expected to work 75% of holidays
- No on-call or call-back required
- Floating required within the region, including Med/Tele, ICU, PCU, ED, and other listed facilities as needed, within scope of practice
- Uses EPIC EMR, Alaris pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, Phillips monitors, and Masimo equipment
- Primary responsibilities include comprehensive care for med/surg tele patients with a wide range of acute and chronic conditions
- Strong team support is provided, including CNAs, charge nurse (may be in staffing), phlebotomy, hospitality services, and 24/7 hospitalist, intensivist, and RT coverage
- CNAs handle all duties within scope;
Unit secretary and IV/VAT teams available on dayshift - Orientation includes NEO and up to 3 days of unit-specific training
- First-time travelers will be considered though not preferred
- Navy scrubs are required for this unit
- Free parking is available on site
- Time off requests up to 6 days may be approved, excluding holidays, with extensions to contract if needed
- Active NC or compact RN license
- Minimum 18 months of recent Med/Tele RN experience
- Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
- Skilled in post-op and orthopedic care, stroke and NIH stroke assessments, chest tube management, starting PIVs, trach care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, NGT placement, drain and tube management, PCA pumps, wound care, and medication gtt management (including cardiac drips such as Diltiazem, heparin, blood products, IVF)
- Experience with Epic EMR preferred
- Willingness to float within the defined regional facilities
- Permanent address must be at least 50 miles from home unit
