Job Description

PVCC is a two‑year community college serving Central Virginia. We are nationally recognized for our transfer curriculum and workforce development programs. Applications will be received on a continuous basis; review will begin immediately and continue until positions are filled.

Adjunct faculty positions are appointed on a course‑by‑course, semester basis as needed. Responsibilities include teaching developmental and/or college‑level courses, which may include distance‑learning courses during the day and evening, on weekdays and weekends. Primarily face‑to‑face with the possibility of remote instruction.

The successful candidate will teach a maximum of 12 credits per semester and may include day, evening and weekend, off‑campus, or distance education courses.

PVCC desires applicants with a commitment to the community college mission; teaching, learning, and student success; integration of learning outcomes assessment into course development and teaching; use of current and emerging technologies to enhance instruction; and other responsibilities that contribute to the progress of the college.

The candidate must be a nationally certified pharmacy technician with at least five years of experience performing technician tasks and hold a current, unrestricted registration in Virginia or a pharmacist with a current and unrestricted license. The successful candidate must have previous experience in a pharmacy setting, possess expert‑level skills necessary to train future pharmacy technicians, be very detail‑oriented, and able to meet set deadlines.

All adjunct faculty positions require excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, ability to write syllabi and exams, develop learning strategies, curriculum, and assessments, and work with students of varying abilities from diverse backgrounds.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications
  • High School diploma;
    Associate degree in a health‑related field preferred
  • PTCB Certification required
  • Five or more years pharmacy technician experience (sterile compounding a plus)
  • Ability to deliver instruction in the classroom, online, and in lab environments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills in both an individual and group setting
  • Work effectively as a team member to ensure that departmental goals are met
  • Ability to work in a virtual environment using multiple software programs simultaneously including MS Office programs, Canvas, Gmail, Zoom, etc.
