About Us:
We are dedicated to providing quality support for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Alternative Services - Oregon, Inc. (ASI-OR) has one goal in mind:
Supporting People to Experience Meaningful Lives.
As a Direct Support Professional, you help individuals live safe, independent, and meaningful lives—whether you're working day, mid, or swing shift. Your day may include assisting with personal care, preparing meals, supporting medication needs, and encouraging daily living skills. You might accompany individuals to appointments, community activities, or help them unwind with evening routines. Throughout every shift, you promote dignity, safety, and choice while documenting progress and collaborating with your team.
No matter the time of day, you're a steady, supportive presence who helps people thrive.
To thrive as a Direct Support Professional (DSP), you'll need a mix of essential skills that will help you make an impact: a solid understanding of supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), a keen awareness of health, safety, and emergency procedures, familiarity with personal care and daily living assistance, and a grasp of confidentiality and professional boundaries. Communication skills are vital;
you should be able to listen actively, speak clearly, and document accurately. Building trust and positive relationships through strong interpersonal skills is also key, as is the ability to solve problems calmly and adapt to surprises. Balancing multiple tasks requires excellent time management, while effective teamwork and the capability to work independently are equally important. Lastly, a valid driver’s license and physical ability to assist with daily activities make for a well‑rounded DSP who can support individuals in their journey to independence.
