Full Time position working at the closed-custody Linn-Benton Juvenile Detention Center
- Assist the Detention Manager in overseeing the intake, care and custody of juvenile offenders.
- Visual and audible observation and direction of juveniles, plan shift activities to meet program needs, coordinate and lead the programming aspect of detention as directed by Management.
- Interview and assess needs of youth and families, aid and assist in case planning, organize and facilitate meetings and appointments with outside agencies, probation officers, victims and families.
- Perform lead worker duties while on shift, support and direct staff, schedule staff coverage and outside transports, monitor visitors, perform intake duties, conduct searches, prepare paperwork for admission and release, prepare juvenile evaluations, distribute meals, supervise showers, participate in groups.
- Provide crisis intervention, respond to emergencies, interact to diffuse aggressive youth, maintain safety and security, distribute medication, provide information to and assist medical personnel.
- Exercise good judgment, ensure thorough communication with team members, demonstrate positive attitude and courteous example for other staff and juveniles, outside agencies, visitors, and members of the community.
- Act as a resource for the community and other agencies relevant to the normal operation of the facility, participate in committee work as assigned by the Detention Manager.
- Assist in the selection and training of new staff, develop staff training, coordinate staff training, research and design staff training programs and incorporate best practices within the juvenile justice field.
- Answer multiple-line phone system, maintain punctual and regular attendance, develop and maintain effective, harmonious and reasonable work relationships with others, maintain a neat personal appearance.
- Comply with department and county policies, procedures and regulations.
- Maintain a clean facility, complete minor maintenance, report issues as needed.
- Maintain CPR/First Aid certification.
- Maintain compliance with the Juvenile Justice Information System (JJIS) policies, standards, and procedures.
- Exercise exemplary judgment.
- Other duties as assigned which may be similar to, related to, or a logical assignment of this position.
Work Schedule: Four 10-hour swing shifts, Sunday - Wednesday, annual schedule rotation with second DW3.
Minimum Qualifications- Requires a four-year degree with major coursework in corrections plus three years related experience, or any satisfactory equivalent combination of experience, education and training which demonstrates the ability to perform the work described. Must have considerable knowledge of juvenile law in Oregon and principles and practices of group management in offender supervision and corrections programs.
- Must possess or obtain within 30 days of hire a valid Class C Oregon Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record. Unacceptable driving record will disqualify potential candidates.
- Must be 21 years of age or older upon date of hire.
- Knowledge and skill in the use of computers, Microsoft products, ability to use the Internet, learn new software.
- Must have obtained certification through OJDDA as a Detention Worker.
Special Requirements
- Possess good assessment skills and the ability to interview juveniles.
- Maintain LEDS Certification as a condition of employment.
- Final applicants are required to pass a pre-employment drug screen, Criminal, and ODHS background check.
- Employees are required to follow both State and Federal laws regarding the use of illegal substances.
