Food Service Cook (Full Time)

Overview To prepare and deliver healthy, attractive, and delicious soups, salads, entrees, and desserts; develop standard recipes which meet Coop food policy and departmental objectives regarding local and organic food sourcing; help meet department goals for sales, margin, and labor costs; supervise member workers in food preparation; and provide exemplary customer service.

Full time, $17.50/hour, flexible schedule including evenings and weekends;
Sunday and Monday availability required.

Food Services Manager

• Develop and prepare soups, salads, and entrees according to specifications with a particular focus on:
  • Seasonal, local, and organic healthy ingredients and meals
  • Catering to a diverse array of dietary preferences including vegan, vegetarian, gluten‑free, and meat options
  • Creative use of ingredients to enhance classic menu items
  • Food costs and use of food products to uphold our commitment to serve high‑quality products at a competitive price while keeping waste to a minimum
• Read and follow departmental production sheets correctly
• Follow recipes, meeting time and quality standards for finished products
• Know and follow proper rotation, dating, and food storage procedures

• Provide significant attention to customers, including a willingness to go above and beyond expectations for all internal and external guests
• Smile and greet everyone you encounter
• Maintain awareness of customers throughout the store in order to ensure premier customer experience
• Maintain a full and attractive grab‑and‑go case, a full and attractive hot entrée table, a hot soup station; make coffees and keep the coffee service area clean and full

• Be positive in the performance of all aspects of the job
• Re‑stock key products before they are depleted
• Take responsibility for knowing the menu and understanding recipes (including: knowing how it tastes, looks, travels, and what accompaniments are required)
• Recognize and communicate to supervisor the need for adjustments in the production schedule
• Maintain awareness of co‑workers and their activities
• Work effectively as part of a team; recognize when help is needed and be willing to offer or ask for help
• Maintain consistency in food preparation while also providing creativity where appropriate
• Be punctual for scheduled start times and be willing to work beyond scheduled hours if necessary to get the job done
• Maintain stove and oven in a clean and sanitary condition
• Promptly advise supervisor of any ordering requirements, equipment needs, or staffing issues
• Attend all departmental meetings
• Other duties as assigned by supervisor

• 1+ years of experience in cooking and food preparation or equivalent combination of culinary education and experience
• Well organized, with strong attention to detail
• Demonstrated knowledge of basic cooking technique, safe use of knives and slicers, proper workstation sanitation techniques, and food temperature "danger zone"
• Familiarity with professional stoves, ovens, and professional kitchen appliances
• Demonstrated passion for cooking and giving great service to internal staff, members and customers
• Ability to remain calm and organized in a deadline‑driven environment
• Demonstrated organizational and verbal/written communication skills
• Self‑motivated
• Ability to spend 100% of work time standing with regular and frequent environmental exposures to cold, heat, and water
• Ability to work safely and calmly in a crowded environment
• Ability to transport 50 lbs regularly
• Ability to attend to and follow oral instructions and verbal cues in a noisy environment
• Demonstrated familiarity with basic office software including word processing, email, internet access, and spreadsheets
• Basic arithmetic skills
• Willingness to learn and collaborate with co‑workers
• Demonstrated resourcefulness and flexibility
