Project Manager 1 (NY HELPs) - 10329

Base pay range
: $66,951.00/yr - $85,138.00/yr
- Define project scope, objectives, and deliverables.
- Create, organize, and maintain project documents such as project plans, status reports, meeting minutes, risk logs, and issue logs.
- Create and maintain project schedules, track task completion, and identify potential delays.
- Manage project execution to ensure on‑time, on‑budget, and within‑scope delivery.
- Foster a collaborative and productive team environment.
- Proactively identify issues or risks and elevate them as needed to ensure appropriate resolution or mitigation.
- Prepare regular project status reports for stakeholders.
- Manage project changes effectively, following established change control processes.
- Ensure proper project closure, including documentation, lessons learned, and stakeholder sign‑off.
- Effectively allocate and manage project resources, including personnel, equipment, and materials.
- Develop and implement a communication plan to ensure effective communication among project team members, stakeholders, and management.
- Ensure project goals align with the overall strategic objectives of the organization.
- Shadow experienced project managers to understand their methodologies, decision‑making processes, and stakeholder management techniques.
- Gain an understanding of different project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall) and apply appropriately.
Open to NYS employees in a title designated appropriate for Section 52.6 transfer to the title of Project Manager Trainee 1 or Project Manager Trainee 2.
NY HELPsMinimum Qualifications
- A bachelor’s degree and two years of professional experience in project management, including planning and at least three of the management process groups: origination, initiation, execution, control, and closing. The experience must include development of project management deliverables such as scope statements, schedules, budgets, quality plans, risk plans, and communication plans; or current certification from the Project Management Institute as a Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM);
or current certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP). - A Juris Doctor, master’s, or higher degree in a related field can substitute for one year of specialized experience.
- Candidates eligible under the Governor’s Program to Hire Persons/Veterans with Disabilities pursuant to Section 55‑b/c of the Civil Service Law will also be considered. Certified eligible individuals must possess a bachelor’s degree. Please provide a copy of your letter of eligibility and an unofficial transcript with your application.
- Salary range above applies to candidates appointed to Project Manager 1, G‑18. The hiring rate for Project Manager Trainee 1 starts at $52,198 and is based on the candidate’s salary at the time of hire. Candidates hired into the traineeship will be advanced to Project Manager 1 upon successful completion of a two‑year traineeship.
