General Responsibilities

The Clinical Supervisor-SUD serves as a member of the Integrated Outpatient Substance Use Program(s) management team and is responsible for assisting the director with the oversight, supervision, and coordination of all aspects of the comprehensive outpatient services programs. The Clinical Supervisor-SUD serves to ensure the fulfillment of the essential duties associated with providing treatment interventions/harm reduction, comprehensive assessments, treatment planning, individual and group therapy within the SUD programs.

Central to this role is the development, creation and transformation of services that foster seamless transitions for patients in need of substance use disorder treatment across multiple locations and settings.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Assists in the planning and evaluation of SUD programs and services, including those designed to increase patient access to care, enhance program census, and achieve clinician productivity standards.
  • Leads and engages clinicians in direct services and evaluates performance.
  • Monitors and assists with the development of clinical processes to improve counselor skills, retention, and patient outcomes.
  • Assists with the development and operationalizing of comprehensive integrated program processes and workflows; serves as the gatekeeper while ensuring the quality of integrated services and entry into programs.
  • Responsible for the provision of clinical supervision of all clinical staff on a regularly scheduled basis in both individual and group formats inclusive of staff meetings, case conference and periodic case reviews.
  • Provides oversight for overall clinical program(s) coverage in the absence of the Director of Outpatient Substance Use Programs.
  • Conducts clinical consultation with the members of the integrated team, psychiatric staff, and other internal/external partners; ensuring patients’ medication, symptom management is addressed; and documentation is conducted in accordance with NYS OASAS and WYH requirements.
  • Facilitates/participates in patient case conferences, hearings and appeals; ensuring advocacy for patient’s right in accordance with NYS OASAS and WYH requirements.
  • Performs orientation of new staff to program services and completes performance evaluations.
  • Maintains a limited caseload as dictated by program needs, providing assessments, individual and group therapies.
  • Monitors behavioral health needs—ensuring treatment plans reflect the integration of behavioral health and primary care to improve patient outcomes.
  • Develops and networks with other community service providers—maintains collaborative relationships with community partners.
  • Attends WYH/external partner meetings as applicable.
  • Serves as member of the integrated quality improvement team as assigned.
  • Serve on other committees as assigned by the Director of Outpatient Substance Use Programs.
  • Works in collaboration with WYH program managers.
  • Development and implementation of quality improvement initiatives to continually assess and improve the quality of patient services—conducts monthly utilization review.
  • Participates in the recruitment of clinical staff.
  • Facilitates a multidisciplinary integrated team approach to the provision of clinical treatment services.
  • Demonstrates excellence in both internal and external customer service.
  • Understands and is able to effectively communicate HIPAA compliance, corporate compliance and client confidentiality.
  • Ensures and/or remains in compliance with local, state, and federal regulation, i.e. JCAHO, OASAS, NYSHD.
  • Adheres to the National Patient Safety Goals as defined by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and the Whitney M. Young Jr. Health Services.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.
