Medical Imaging Technologists are allied health professionals who perform diagnostic examinations at the request or direction of an Interventional Cardiologist during invasive cardiology, noninvasive cardiology, and/or peripheral vascular study procedures. Through subjective data collection and recording, the Technologist obtains information from which a correct anatomical and physiological diagnosis may be established for each patient.
The Medical Imaging Technologist is actively involved in all phases of the peri-procedural process. S/he manipulates procedural instrumentation under the direct supervision of the Interventional Cardiologist. S/he is responsible for supplies, and equipment necessary during the invasive cardiology procedure. S/he has an in-depth understanding of the procedure and anticipates the needs of the Interventional Cardiologist. S/he is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field.

The Medical Imaging Technologist is able to function independently in the scrub role for all procedures inclusive of advanced and highly complex procedures, and function as a circulator under the supervision of the Registered Professional Nurse (RN).
The Medical Imaging Technologist, under the direction of the Medical Director and/or Section Head, the Manager, and Interventional Cardiologist performs technical procedures and assists in the clinical evaluation and care of the patients. The Medical Imaging Technologist utilizes their specific modality to create diagnostic images and provide their patients with a safe, positive experience. In radiation-producing modalities, technologists practice and enforce the radiation safety measure in the New York State Department of Health Code part 16.

Technologists support teaching and continue learning as the technology changes for both themselves and others. This position requires emergency on-call duties.
