Director – Economic Sanctions & Export Controls
Join KPMG US as a Director in the Legal Risk Management Compliance team, leading the design and execution of export control and sanctions compliance programs.
Responsibilities- Oversee regulatory horizon scanning and change management for export controls, evaluating engagement teams’ activities for potential exposure, maintaining risk registers, and escalating high‑risk issues to leadership.
- Develop, maintain, and update policies and procedures for export controls and DDTC registration; implement internal controls for ITAR, EAR, and sanctions regulations; assist engagement teams in creating technology control plans.
- Design and deliver training programs and awareness campaigns on export control obligations and sanctions compliance.
- Establish monitoring mechanisms, perform periodic testing of controls, and prepare compliance dashboards and reports for leadership review.
- Lead investigations into potential violations, develop corrective action plans, and coordinate with internal audit and regulatory bodies.
- Act with integrity, professionalism, and personal responsibility to uphold KPMG’s respectful work environment.
- Minimum ten years recent experience in sanctions and export controls (preferred).
- Master’s degree or Juris Doctor in a related field preferred;
Bachelor’s degree required. Preferred certifications include CECP or equivalent. - Experience with economic sanctions compliance programs.
- Deep knowledge of U.S. export control regulations (ITAR, EAR) and DDTC requirements.
- Extensive experience managing export compliance programs in complex, multi‑stakeholder environments.
- Strong understanding of federal contracting requirements and risk management principles; familiarity with CUI handling and federal advisory contract frameworks.
- Ability to influence and collaborate across diverse teams and senior leadership.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without visa sponsorship; KPMG does not sponsor.
Salary range (California): $150,000 – $273,000. Additional benefit: KPMG offers a comprehensive package including medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, 401(k), and well‑being programs. Personal time off aligns with fiscal year and company holidays.
