Senior Mechanical Engineer – MEP; HVAC

Overview

Senior Mechanical Engineer – MEP (HVAC). Our client is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with strong MEP design experience to support a diverse portfolio of commercial and institutional projects. This role offers the opportunity to serve as a technical leader responsible for the design and development of mechanical building systems, while mentoring junior engineers and collaborating with multidisciplinary project teams.

The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience designing HVAC and mechanical systems within the MEP consulting environment, along with the ability to manage multiple projects and provide technical guidance throughout the design and construction process.

• Lead the design and development of HVAC and mechanical systems for commercial, institutional, academic, corporate, and healthcare facilities.
• Develop mechanical designs from early concept through construction documentation.
• Perform load calculations, energy modeling, system sizing, and equipment selection using industry-standard software.
• Prepare detailed mechanical drawings, specifications, system diagrams, and controls documentation.
• Coordinate with architects, structural engineers, electrical engineers, and other disciplines to ensure integrated building system designs.
• Participate in project meetings, client discussions, and technical presentations.
• Support project schedules, budgets, and deliverable timelines.
• Conduct site visits, field inspections, and building surveys.
• Review RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, and field change requests.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and design staff.
• Perform QA/QC reviews to ensure design accuracy and quality standards.
• Ensure designs comply with local codes, industry standards, and sustainability goals.
• Interface directly with clients and project partners to deliver technical solutions.
• Participate in project proposals, interviews, and technical presentations.
• Conduct site assessments and prepare technical reports.

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s degree is a plus).
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• 8+ years of experience in Mechanical MEP design with a focus on HVAC systems (plumbing and/or fire protection experience is a plus).
• Strong knowledge of mechanical codes, energy standards, and sustainable design practices.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
• Experience collaborating across architecture and engineering disciplines.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and technical writing skills.
• Proficiency with industry tools including:
  • AutoCAD
  • Revit / Revit MEP
  • Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Teams)
  • HVAC design software such as Trane Trace, HAP, or similar load calculation tools
