Canal/Bridge Inspection Team Lead – KCI
Join KCI as a Canal/Bridge Inspection Team Lead and lead field inspection teams in the Transportation Structures group across New York state. This role focuses on structural condition assessments for canal structures, bridges, water control, and related waterfront infrastructure.

Responsibilities- Lead and perform bridge, canal, and water control structure inspections in accordance with NYSCC, NYSDOT, and/or ASCE standards.
- Plan and coordinate inspection logistics, safety, and field operations.
- Prepare, review, and finalize detailed technical reports and inspection documentation.
- Perform quality reviews and ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards, and safety requirements.
- Coordinate with clients, project managers, and internal teams to deliver projects efficiently.
- Utilize Microsoft Office Suite and other emerging technologies applicable to engineering inspection and reporting.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to assistant team leaders, junior engineering inspection staff, and other specialty inspection staff (dive technicians, ROV/UAV operators, surveyors, etc.).
- Travel to project sites approximately 4–8 non‑consecutive weeks per year.
- Active P.E. License in New York, or the ability to attain license within 3 months.
- Minimum of 3 years in canal, bridge, construction, or water control structure inspection and/or design.
- Familiarity with standard field inspection techniques, safety procedures, and inspection access equipment.
- Strong organizational, technical writing, and quality control skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite; interest in adopting/integrating new inspection technology (e.g., drones, ROVs, cloud‑based data storage, tablets, above‑water and underwater 3D imaging, AI learning software).
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Comfortable working at heights, on ladders, in water, on scaffolding, and in adverse weather conditions.
- ADCI Surface Supplied Air Diving Certification preferred but not required.
- FAA Part 107 Drone Certification and/or ROV experience preferred but not required.
- Bachelor’s Degree in related field (AEC Industry)
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
- Proven experience in planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring engineering projects.
- Proven experience in project management roles, with a track record of successful project delivery.
- Strong organizational and time‑management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with clients, team members, and stakeholders.
- Knowledge of industry standards and best practices related to construction management, quality assurance, and safety protocols.
- Strong problem‑solving skills, with the ability to identify issues and implement effective solutions in a fast‑paced environment.
- Master’s Degree
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.)
