OVERVIEW
The ESL Instructor provides specialized instruction for various state and federally funded programs intended to engage a diverse population of learners. For the purposes of developing refugees and immigrants' ability to effectively perform courses of study in English and acquire the English language.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plan, organize, and provide instruction in English that meet state and federal standards
- Provide instruction that is consistent and coordinated with the instructional program so as to ensure that learners meet and exceed learning targets
- Provide a nurturing and supportive learning environment that encourages the learner responsibility and incorporates challenging instructional strategies
- Employ a variety of instructional techniques and strategies to meet different aptitudes and interests of the learner
- Administer academic and language assessments for the purpose of evaluating the learners progress for meeting academic learning targets and progress in language acquisition
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, preferable in Education or related discipline (Or with a minimum of three years TESOL experience is required)
- Availability to work on a variable schedule, including the likelihood of teaching on nights and weekends
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including ability to communicate and build lasting relationships and partnerships with program and field office staff
- Sensitivity to the development stages and well-being of ELLs
- Proficient in the use of MS Word, MS Access, MS Excel and database programs
- Ability to facilitate group discussion, analyze situations, and draw conclusions
- Highly adaptable and flexible with the ability to multi-task and prioritize in a demanding work environment
- Must have dedication to human rights of refugees, immigrants, asylum seekers, and displaced people
- Good sense of humor and pleasant, diplomatic manner is desired.
- Satisfactory completion of USCRI's Orientation and Training
- Satisfactory completion of funder required trainings upon hire and on an annual basis
- Complete additional training as identified by supervisor or Human Resources
- Use of manual dexterity, tactile, visual, and audio acuity
- Use of repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting and standing, and sustained visual and mental applications and demands
- Occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds), bending, pulling, and carrying; and
- Quantitative/mathematical ability (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, standard measurements).
