The Department of Psychology within the College of Arts and Sciences at the University at Albany invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor.
We seek investigators specializing in sensory-perceptual processing, learning and memory, emotion, stress systems, cognition, neurodegenerative disease, and/or mental health disorders. Candidates should employ modern approaches such as optogenetics, chemo genetics, 2-photon imaging, genetic mouse models, or machine learning methods. Applicants must demonstrate potential to secure federal funding and lead a laboratory.
Primary Responsibilities- Research
:
Conduct innovative research, publish in peer-reviewed journals, present at conferences, and secure external funding. - Teaching
:
Teach undergraduate and graduate courses, mentor students, and develop course materials. - Service
:
Participate in university governance, admissions, advising, and serve on dissertation committees.
- Reports to:
Psychology Department Chair - Supervises:
Graduate and undergraduate students and laboratory personnel (postdoctoral researchers, technicians, etc.)
- Ph.D. in Psychology, Neuroscience, or a related discipline by August 15, 2026.
- Demonstrated potential for research in behavioral neuroscience.
- Potential to obtain independent extramural funding.
- Ability to teach behavioral neuroscience courses and supervise trainees.
- Dedication to inclusive and equitable relationships within a diverse campus community.
- Commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and belonging.
- Promising track record of impactful research.
- Experience securing external research funding.
- Research focusing on non-human models of learning and memory, emotion, stress systems, cognition, neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental disorders, and mental health disorders.
- Experience teaching at the collegiate level, especially behavioral neuroscience.
- Ability to work with a culturally diverse population.
Working Environment
:
Typical office, classroom, and research lab settings.
Professional Rank and Salary Range
:
Assistant Professor 10 Months, Salary commensurate with experience.
