Position: School Safety Monitor - High (26-27 SY)
Location: City of Albany

Position Overview

The School Safety Monitor is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of students and staff, maintaining order, protecting school property, and enforcing school rules and regulations.

Duties/Responsibilities
  • Patrol school halls, stairwells, restrooms, courtyards, entrances, parking lots and other parts of school buildings and grounds to protect persons and property, maintain order and ensure compliance with school rules.
  • Provide security of persons and property while improving the atmosphere for the conduct of the program of studies.
  • Responsible for ensuring the safety of students and staff, maintaining order, protecting school property, and enforcing school rules and regulations.
  • Establish a rapport with students to assist them with their problems or refer them to someone on the professional staff who can help.
  • Reports periodically to the principal on problems, incidents and conditions affecting security, either orally or in writing.
  • Develops rapport with students so they can have someone to talk to about their school or personal problems and refers them to someone who can help them.
  • Advises the Culture Team, Leadership Team, or Counselors about potential or actual student problems concerning class‑cutting, truancy, disciplinary problems or other school or personal problems.
  • Implements safety and security protocols to ensure a safe school environment.
  • Recommends and implements procedures and best practices to prevent, deter and deescalate incidents at schools.
  • Monitor and supervise the loading of buses and follow buses along their assigned routes or on field trips to make sure no discipline problems develop.
  • Work in a detention class or Alternative Learning Location de‑escalating students and conferring with them as to the importance of remaining in school and of maintaining proper school behavior.
  • Monitors student attendance by recording absences from class or class cuts, notes late students, verifies absence notes and hall passes to ensure they’re signed by teachers.
  • Provide consistent rewards and consequences for student behavior.
  • Help students adjust, learn, socialize, and report possible behavioral issues.
  • Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred. High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in student service work, recreation, education, or any other activity involving service to students.
  • Experience with oversight of students in a school setting is desirable.
  • Prior experience working in schools and urban communities is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule outside of regular business hours.
  • Aptitude to create and work within an inclusive environment that honors and supports a diversity of backgrounds and perspectives.
