Location: City of Albany
Long-Term Replacement 1.0 Special Education Teacher (12:1:2) at Elementary Level (Grades K-4) for at Saddlewood Elementary School.
Start Date:
January 2026 - ASAP.
The educator will be responsible for teaching groups of students with a range of disabilities. The selected candidate will develop, monitor and adjust instruction to promote the growth of our students which includes their intellectual, emotional, social and physical well-being. Additionally, the successful candidate must demonstrate unquestionable integrity, understand the value of culturally responsive instructional practices and have a firm belief in the potential of all students.
Effective November 2025 to June 30, 2026.
- NYS Permanent Special Education or NYS Professional in Students with Disabilities Certification.
- Candidates who possess other teaching certificates, in addition to special education are preferred.
- Master’s degree required.
- Familiarity and experience providing instruction and support for students with emotional disabilities and/or behavioral challenges.
- Effective communication skills to engage students, parents, colleagues and the school community as a whole.
The Ideal Candidate
Demonstrated skill in teaching elementary students with social-emotional disabilities in both substantially separate and inclusive settings.
Knowledge of multi-disciplinary instructional techniques, research-based interventions for teaching academics as well as behavior, and strategies for collecting data and monitoring academic/behavioral progress.
Knowledge of/experience with developing and implementing positive behavioral supports, behavior intervention plans (BIPs), and functional behavioral assessments (FBAs).
Familiarity with developing and delivering highly engaging instruction.
Experience with classroom management, IEP goal development and progress monitoring.
Able to lead classroom staff and collaborate with other members of the special education team.
Fully trained in crisis intervention/response such as Therapeutic Crisis Intervention for Schools (TCIS).
