Together for Youth Secure Detention is seeking to hire a full-time Special Education Teacher to be responsible for preparing lesson plans and educating students at all levels. Duties include assigning homework, grading tests, and documenting progress. Teachers must be able to instruct in a variety of subjects and reach students with engaging lesson plans.
Job Responsibilities- Facilitate lesson plan instructions to students, including 1:1 and small groups; provide input and help facilitate social and emotional learning components of lesson plans.
- Develop and issue educational content including notes, tests, and assignments.
- Supervise classes to ensure all students are learning in a safe and productive environment.
- Organize supplies and resources for lectures and presentations.
- Deliver personalized instruction to each student by encouraging interactive learning.
- Plan and implement educational activities and events.
- Present lessons in a comprehensive manner and use visual/audio means to facilitate learning.
- Provide individualized instruction to each student by promoting interactive learning.
- Create and distribute educational content.
- Ensure classroom is clean and orderly.
- Allocate and grade homework, assignments, and tests.
- Observe, monitor, and complete specific reports regarding student performance and behaviors in the classroom.
- Provide pre-crisis intervention and conflict resolution with students, including implementing Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) principles and approved behavior modification techniques/strategies.
- Comply with all federal, state and local laws and regulations, including NYS Office of Children and Family Services.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Schedule:
Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM (year round). - Compensation: $75,000 to $90,000 per year, dependent on experience, education, and skills.
- Minimum of three (3) years of practical teaching experience; middle school & high school teaching experience required.
- Bachelor's degree and a valid NYS teaching certificate required, or an equivalent teaching certificate obtained through a NYS-approved pathway leading to a master's degree in education and permanent certification.
- Teaching experience in a High School Alternative School Setting is highly preferred.
- Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).
- Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to travel if needed.
