Position: Graduate Assistant for the Office of the Secretary

The SUNY Office of the Secretary is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented graduate assistant to support board and shared governance at SUNY System Administration. This role is ideal for a student interested in policy, public service, history, law, or higher education. Under the direction of the Secretary to the Board of Trustees, the intern/graduation assistant will gain hands‑on experience in supporting large‑scale meetings, education law, and communications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist in maintaining and updating databases.
  • Support meeting preparation through material development and editing as well as assisting with scheduling, note taking, and follow‑up communications.
  • Help coordinate the Board's strategic calendar.
  • Compile media folders.
  • Assist with documentation and organization of pre‑ and post‑Board Meeting materials.
Anticipated Learning Outcomes
  • Demonstrate an understanding of Board and Shared Governance best practices.
  • Communicate professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Manage projects using shared tools, such as Microsoft Suite, Board Effect, and timelines.
Job Requirements

Required Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled as a graduate student at a SUNY campus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Reliable, organized, and detail‑oriented.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative when appropriate.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Familiarity with web editing.
Additional Information

Hours are flexible. Typically averaging 20 hours per week. Paid Positions:
Undergraduate students $16.00/hour:
Graduate students $18.00/hour.
